Week Vacation Part 1: Tallinn

Last week was insane but definitely in a good way! After two months of hard work we finally got our greatly desired week-long vacation! And I must say, it was exhausting but just what we all needed to gear up for another two months of teaching. All eight of us went to Tallinn, Estonia and then we split up into two groups, half going to Stockholm and Helsinki and the other half (my group) heading down to Kiev, Ukraine.
Tallinn was like no where I have ever been before. Granted, it is totally a "touristy" place to go, but it's still fantastic and I would love to go back some day. It's set up so the city center is this medieval area with a bunch of shops, restaurants, clubs, hotels, nut stands, people dressed up like peasants, cathedrals, beautiful viewing spots and just about anything that makes a vacation spot desirable. The down side...everything was super expensive. I hardly bought any souvenirs there just because it was all so pricey but I took as many pictures as I could force myself to.

Contemplating life in an alley in Tallinn

Gorgeous Cathedral with the best church bells on Sunday

Splendid afternoon view of the city

One of the oldest features of the city, Kiek in de Kok. It was part of a fortress that was built and it was so high that they named it "Kiek in de Kok" meaning "A peek in the kitchen" because they could literally see into people's kitchens.

Just me being slightly disrespectful at the Occupation Museum. Poor little Estonia was always getting picked on by Germany and Russia. On the brighter side, it's a little funny that this guy has no hands...

Hanging out and looking smug in some underground tunnels

Our hostel. It's not as sketchy on the inside as it looks on the outside.

The Open Air Museum. Probably one of my favorite places in Tallinn (Lauren is awesome for having us go there)

A final farewell to Tallinn and Town Hall, the first site we saw every morning.

How about a little bit of Tallinn around sunset...

And of course my excellent traveling companions (Allison on the left, Kristen, and Lauren)

Part two of the trip will hopefully be soon to come!

What a beautiful place! That view of the city looks like it came to life from a Disney movie. What an adventure!
